Normally Opened (NO) or Fail-secure rated electric strike remains locked during loss of power supply.  Normally Closed (NC) or Fail-safe rated electric strike requires power to stay locked. When power is lost (such as a blackout), NC or fail-safe Electric Lock Strikes will remain unlocked until power is restored.  Electric Strike that is NO rated may not be compliant with your local building / fire safety code.  We personally feel that NC rated electric strike is safer.  Buyer should check with their local safety code before making decision to buy a NC or NO rated electric strike.
